Airtel appoints Ajay Chitkara as director and CEO of its B2B unit, combines domestic and global enterprise business

Bharti Airtel today announced that it has appointed Ajay Chitkara as Director and CEO of Airtel Business, and the company has integrated both domestic enterprise and global enterprise operations. Ajay will continue reporting to Gopal Vittal, who is the MD and CEO of Bharti Airtel. The company has also appointed Pankaj Miglani as CEO – Global Business. He will report to Ajay Chitkara. Previously he was Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Bharti Infratel and played a key role in the company’s IPO in 2012.

Ajay has been with Airtel since 2001 and is credited with building brand Airtel in the global wholesale segment. “It was under Ajay’s leadership, its Global Business grew in topline to become a billion-dollar business, while EBIT margins jumped five-fold since 2013,” said Airtel.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro Android 8.1 Oreo MIUI 9.5 update with gesture support, Dual 4G VoLTE starts rolling out [Update: Stable update download link]

Update June 26: Xiaomi has started rolling out MIUI 9.5.14.0.OEIMIFA Android 8.1 (Oreo) stable update for the  Redmi Note 5 Pro users, a day earlier than expected. If you can’t wait, you can manually flash MIUI 9.5.14.0 Recovery ROM using updater method.

Changelog includes Android N to Android O upgrade for India, Dual 4G optimization and MIUI 9.5 optimization.

Update June 25: Xiaomi has finally announced that global stable MIUI 9.5 ROM based on Android 8.1 (Oreo) will roll out starting from June 29th, Friday for Redmi Note 5 Pro users in batches. We will update the ROM once it begins rolling out.

Earlier: Xiaomi started rolling out MIUI 9.5 in March and as per the schedule Redmi Note 5 Pro was supposed to get the update in April. Towards end of April, company revised the schedule and said that it will roll out MIUI 9.5 update for Redmi Note 5 Pro in May with a surprise. Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 10nm and 730 8nm Mobile Platform specifications surface

Qualcomm at the MWC 2018 back in February announced Snapdragon 700 Mobile Platform Series with on-device Artificial Intelligence with multi-core Qualcomm AI Engine offering 2x improvements compared to Snapdragon 600 Series. Now the specifications of Snapdragon 710 (rumored as Snapdragon 670 previously) and Snapdragon 730 have surfaced.

This reveals that the Snapdragon 710 will be built on Samsung 10nm LPE (Low Power Early) process, promising 27% higher performance or 40% lower power consumption compared with 14nm SoCs.  The Snapdragon 730 is said to be built on Samsung 8nm LPP (Low Power Plus) process technology which as 10% smaller surface area and 10% less power consumption compared to 10LPP process. Qualcomm is said to be the first company to use 8 LPP process starting with Snapdragon 730.

Both these are rumored to use 2+6 cluster arrangement but the 710 is said to use Kryo 3xx cores compared to Kryo 4xx cores on 730. Both are also expected to use the same Adreno 615 GPU and QHD display support, but the 730 is said to have Spectra 350 ISP compared to Spectra 250 on the 710. Xiaomi Mi 6X with 20MP front and rear cameras teased, Mi Band 3 could be announced alongside on April 25

Last week Xiaomi scheduled an event on April 25th. Now the company has confirmed that it will indeed unveil the Mi 6X at the event. It also said that it will feature 20-megapixel cameras on the front and back. The phone is rumored to feature a 20-megapixel rear camera along with a secondary 8-megapixel camera.

The phone is shown in Blue color and the certification site revealed the Red color variant of the phone. It is also expected to come in Rose Gold, Gold, White,, Pink, Gray and Silver colors.

Honor 7C with 5.99-inch full-screen display, Snapdragon 450, dual rear cameras, face unlock announced

Huawei’s Honor brand just announced Honor 7C, the latest budget smartphone, as it had promised. It has a 5.99-inch HD+ 2.5D curved glass display with 18:9 aspect ratio, is powered by Snapdragon 450 with up to 4GB RAM and runs on  Android 8.0 (Oreo) with EMUI 8.0 on top. It has a 13-megapixel rear camera along with a 2-megapixel front-facing camera to capture the depth information for portrait shots.

There is an 8-megapixel front-facing camera with support for beauty mode, soft LED flash that can be adjusted depending on the lighting conditions. It also has face unlock similar to most of the Honor smartphones. It has dedicated dual SIM as well as micro SD slots, has a fingerprint sensor on the back and packs a 3000mAh battery.

Huawei’s Honor brand just announced Honor 7C, the latest budget smartphone, as it had promised. It has a 5.99-inch HD+ 2.5D curved glass display with 18:9 aspect ratio, is powered by Snapdragon 450 with up to 4GB RAM and runs on  Android 8.0 (Oreo) with EMUI 8.0 on top. It has a 13-megapixel rear camera along with a 2-megapixel front-facing camera to capture the depth information for portrait shots.

Vodafone launches VoLTE services in Maharashtra and Goa, Rajasthan

Vodafone launched VoLTE (Voice Over LTE) services in India last month starting from Delhi-NCR, Mumbai and Gujarat. Now it has launched VoLTE in Maharashtra and Goa, and Jaipur and Jodhpur in Rajasthan, which will soon expand in other cities of the state soon. Vodafone is calling it Super VoLTE and said that the technology delivers high-quality sound over voice calls across the Vodafone SuperNet 4G network so that users will experience ultra-clear voice quality and reduced background noise.

“Conversations will sound more natural, almost as if the person at the other end of the phone call is right next to you. Also, with Vodafone Super VoLTE, you can surf at 4G speeds even while being on a phone call,” said Vodafone.

If you have a VoLTE enabled handset, you can SMS 4G CHECK to 199 to know if you your smartphone is Vodafone Super VoLTE compatible. If you have Dual SIM handset, Vodafone SIM should be inserted in the SIM slot with data capability and network mode should be set as “4G/3G/2G (Auto)”.

Xiaomi begins MIUI 10 development

Xiaomi introduced MIUI 9 back in July last year along with the Mi 5X smartphone which has already rolled out to several devices. Yesterday at the 2017 Annual Meeting for MIUI division to discuss about the past year and future development, the company said that it has started the development of MIUI 10. This was confirmed by Hong Feng, Co-Founder and Vice President of Xiaomi who leads the MIUI division.

Since the development of MIUI 10 is still in early stages, new features and design changes are still in concept stage so we will only know when the company decides to reveal some details about the major MIUI update in the coming months.

In an interview last year, Hong Feng hinted that Artificial Intelligence could be one of the key features in MIUI 10. Hope we can expect AI and machine learning features to MIUI 10.

Xiaomi continues to work on MIUI 9 and it recently rolled out MIUI 9.2 update that brought a lot of features that were originally unveiled at the launch of MIUI 9. Recently it confirmed that some of its old smartphones will not get the MIUI 10 update.
