Microsoft SMS Organizer app delivers CBSE Class 10, Class 12 board exam results to your phone even if you are offline

Microsoft is bringing a very interesting feature to its SMS Organizer app; the app can now deliver your CBSE Class 10, Class 12 board exam results directly to your inbox even when you are offline. Instead of refreshing your browser to check results, you can register on the app to get them delivered directly.

Microsoft had partnered with CBSE to display the board exam results on bing.com back in 2016, and is now extending the experience to Microsoft SMS Organizer as well.

To get your results, firstly you need to have

SMS organizer app installed and then look out for the notification from SMS Organizer to register for CBSE results.
Click on the notification and register with your details like your roll number, school code, and date of birth to complete registration.
Once you are registered, on result day, you will get a notification of your result, and you just have to click to see your scorecard.

This is really an easy way to get your results delivered directly to your mobile as soon as they are released. This works even without an internet connection on result day.

WhatsApp for Android beta gets option to show or hide media in gallery, new contact shortcut

WhatsApp is rolling out yet another beta update bringing the version number to V2.18.159. This update hints at two new features; new contact shortcut and media visibility.

The new Media visibility feature allows you to choose the visibility of shared media. You can modify the settings from WhatsApp Settings, Data and Storage Usage, where you will have a new option called Media visibility. Enabling this option will show all the downloaded media in a gallery outside of WhatsApp. Disabling this will hide the downloaded media in the gallery which is obvious. While you can see the media within the app, it won’t be visible in the gallery. This might not be available for everyone yet.

Next on the list is the new contact shortcut, addition to new group, similar to the WhatsApp for iOS app that is available on Android as well. Pressing this shortcut will help you in quickly creating a new contact. If you are a WhatsApp beta tester, you can download the update from Play Store or from APK mirror here.

Samsung’s upcoming Gear smartwatch said to use Wear OS instead of Tizen

There were rumors and reports on Chinese social network Weibo from earlier this week suggesting that the upcoming Gear smartwatch might run on the Wear OS instead of Tizen. While these rumors might be a hit or a miss, now comes another confirmation from none other than Evan Blass who said to have spotted Samsung employees wearing Gear watches running not Tizen, but Wear OS.

Seen on the wrists of Samsung employees: Gear watches running not Tizen, but Wear OS.

Though the information sounds appealing and leads us to believe that Samsung might be changing its gear for the Gear smartwatch, it doesn’t necessarily mean that the company would bring this to the masses ditching its own Tizen OS. But it is sure looks like the company is toying with the idea. Samsung’s default go-to OS for wearables has always been the Tizen since for quite some time now, but the long lacking developer support has always been a burning issue for Samsung and its user base.

Either way, it still needs to be seen which way Samsung would take at the end of the day. It would definitely be interesting to see Samsung experimenting by launching Gear Smartwatch in …

Google Lens real-time detection, redesigned UI and more now rolling out

Google at the I/O 2018 showcased a bunch of new features including the real-time detection which is the ability to identify and add interactive elements to objects that you want information about. This new feature is now rolling out along with a redesigned interface with white U.I.

Other visual changes include a new rounded card at the bottom of the screen replacing the black overlay interface. The new White U.I which on pulling up provides examples and instructions on how to use Lens. It looks like Google has tweaked the “Remember this” or “Import to Keep” shortcuts in Lens, as the functionality doesn’t appear to be present in the new updated interface.

The real-time detection now shows a button on the item which on tapping will present more information about it. This new behavior replaces the good old stop and taps objects in the viewfinder before Lens can recognize it as an object that is capable of providing information.

Now it can detect more than just one object if it has identified more than one item as capable of providing information in the scene. It appears that Google Assistant is now missing from the frozen-screen images when you back out from the Lens dialog. Google Lens has already started rolling out to …

Microsoft achieves first human-level Chinese to English machine translation using AI

Microsoft has announced that it has created first machine human-level Chinese to English translation. It is one of a kind Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered machine system that can translate sentences of news articles from Chinese to English with the same quality and accuracy as humans.

Researchers from both USA and Asia said that their system has achieved human parity on a commonly used test set of news stories named newstest2017 which was developed by a group of industry and academic partners and released at a research conference WMT17 last fall. Post the tests, the company says that the results are accurate and on par with human-level.

The team said that they have hired external bilingual human evaluators, who compared the Microsoft’s results to two independently produced human reference translations. The company is calling it a major milestone in one of the most challenging natural language processing tasks. The team used the dual-learning method meaning that a sentence which is sent to translation from Chinese to English, was also translated it back from English to Chinese. This method made sure the translation accurate, and it allowed the system to refine and learn from its own mistakes.

Qualcomm raises its bid to acquire NXP

Qualcomm today announced that it has reached an agreement with NXP Semiconductors NV to raise its bid to $127.50 per share from $110 and has lowered minimum tender threshold to 70% of outstanding shares instead of the 80% it required under the earlier terms.

Qualcomm said that it has reached a binding agreement with nine NXP Stockholders who currently collectively own more than 28% of outstanding shares which excludes additional economic interests through derivatives. The latest offer values NXP at $44 billion. The revised price reflects NXP’s recent performance which includes the 2017 results which exceeded Qualcomm’s transaction model on revenue, gross margin and EBIT and GAAP operating income also increased 20% from calendar 2016 to 2017.

The NXP auto business has increased revenues by 11% YoY on the other hand,  Qualcomm has also significantly improved its own capabilities in key industry segments such as Auto, IoT, and Networking. NXP’s shares were up 6.5% at $126.15 in premarket trading. The acquisition will help Qualcomm in the fast-growing auto-mobiles chipset market.

NXP has time till March 5th, 2018 and Qualcomm intend to fund the additional consideration with cash on hand and new debt. Qualcomm’s acquisition of NXP has received antitrust clearance from eight of the nine required government regulatory bodies around the world …
